changing a scope with conetrol rings

Gently spread ring-halves at bottom.......while finger pinching the halves together at the top.

Also, info should be available on the Conetrol website.

i was amazed there wasn't a video showing how to remove and re-install the caps.

IIRC, there is a small screw that holds the rings in place while you install/remove the ring assembly but maybe not. It's been probably 40 years since I used these but I still have them in my "stuff". They certainly make a beautiful installation though. If you remove them from the bases I think you will see how to proceed from there.

well it's done but it wasn't at all like i thought it would be. kevinG came closest.
what i found when i removed the scope from the bases was each scope ring post had a small screw thru it. you had to loosen the screw to where you could spread the rings apart and squeeze the rings together at the top. the small cap just pops loose. you can then remove the rings. installation is just reverse the process. you will hear a small pop when the cap goes back on.

First.......lose the tiny clamp screws.

Next......polish the four edges of each ring half (they're grabby, and a soft cratex bit on a dremel tool works well if used carefully). Depending on internal finish.......I sometimes use a 0.75" hard felt bob with JB bore cleaner, to slightly smooth manufacturing tool marks.

Lastly.......and importantly......very VERY slightly spread each ring half, such that it easily slips around the scope tube prior to assembly (I lay each ring half against a 1.25" brass rod, and VERY lightly bump the half with a leather mallet..........bump,try, bump,try, etc...)

What you end up with, is a ring assembly that will allow smooth scope rotation adjustment during mounting.........WITHOUT the grabbyness, or tube damage.
