If you were to re glue both pieces back on with with super glue, my bet is everything else will brake before the glued joints. And the front sling stud had nothing to do with the brake. "It was the poor glue joint". No stress on either of the joints so looks like no reinforcements needed.

I will take that bet. Beer is my preferred payoff. Cyanoacrylate adhesives are meant to work with very smooth surfaces, preferably plastics or other man-made materials, in the absence of any air gap or textured surface. Even though it will glue your eyelids shut Super Glue is one of the worst choices for this application.

Yea, you need a good 2 part epoxy, prep well and clamp it good. Clean as much of the excess as you can reach once clamped. Leave at room temperature or warmer to cure.

How to reinforce forearm
Question: What is best material to reinforce forearm end cap?
Drill into stock and end cap two sets of matching/aligned holes and insert: (1) wood dowels or (2) steel rods I plan to use a 2-part epoxy West Marina. Thank you for your advise |

thought you wanted a gunsmith to fix it: y or n?
Dowels. After giving gorilla glue a good work out I'd never use that again for anything. Board joints I used it heavily on broke real easy. See if a local wood shop would let you use some of their animal hide glue. That's seemed to do better on furniture for me and joints made on table tops and such around 1960-62 are still good glued with it. As for the pistol grip cap, I'd try to find one with a screw or way to put a screw or bolt thru it, then glue. I'm surprised that thumbhole area didn't get broken. Thats a very weak section.

fix
I'm not convinced that those areas hadn't been "repaired" poorly and failed. Think about it, a single static impact that causes both to fail at the same time? As for the repair you want wood dowels to repair wood. Done correctly it will be as strong as solid wood.

We have a guy here locally whose father used to fix many of the instruments and fiddles out of Nashville. Best kept secret in the nation. Anyway you used to be able to go down there and run in the famous people that were dropping off their instruments. If you’re interested his name is Brandon Patton and his father’s name is Ronnie. Super reasonable and you can ship your stuff there for repair. If you want his number email me tsmysak1 at frontier.com
They can fix any gun stock with any kind of repair or break. I once saw them fix a stagecoach gun that had a notch cut out of it for the seat rail. It was triple fancy wood and they matched it. I didn’t think such a thing was possible |
