Default ZMAX vs. VMAX

Hey all, is there any difference between the V and the Z?

I have tried to compare in the 17 cal 20 grain and the 22 cal 50 grain. They seem to shoot in different locations. Anyone else tried this?

Default z max vs. v max

I and others that have called Hornady, have been told they are the same bullet, just the tip color changed. The yellow z-max for the Zombie craze. Bill K

I have put both in a bullet comparator and the ogive is different and that should change the BC.

BIG difference...in price. I shoot a lot of the Zmax bullets as a result. I have about 8,000 rounds in stock, thinking eventually Hornady will raise the price. In a couple of 20VT rifles they shoot as good as Sierra and Berger bullets I've tried.

I measured base to ogive on several of my 20 caliber Hornady V/Zmax bullets. In one case the difference between the V and Z was .002 thousands. However between lots of Zmax bullets I found similar variation. They might be different but I personally don't think so, and even if they are, I don't care as long as the Zmax price stays low.

Do you really think the critters care about the difference, if any, between the Z or
V max. They, critters, have never be able to give me an opinion. I have shot both colors at
them. My 2 cents worth.

Have used both in .17, .20 and .22 calibers, and got excellent results from all. May require a tiny bit of load tinkering, but I would happily use large quantities of either type, expecially if I got a deal on them. JMO

Same here, called Hornady and was told except for the color of the tip, they are the same bullet.

You are absolutely right about the position of the ogive changing things but I always measure ogive when I open a box from a new lot of the same model number projectile and found lot to lot changes as well. Worse years back but it's still something I always check.
A friend at Hornady told me nothing changes but the color on the tip with the Z-Max to V-Max.
