Default 17vmax, 18LHD HP, 20gr HMR XTP, 25GR REM PLHP

All safe in my 17VHA (12.5gr H20 VOL) with the case full of H4198 up to the bottom of the neck. No 30gr trial yet. Prmers are Rem 7.5. No flat primers. Don't assume that it will be safe in yours, but the 17AH hornet apparently just hits 47,800psi with a full case of H4198 and a 30gr can't be loaded in mine with a case filled to the top with H4198, it is too long. 9.7gr H4198 can be stuffed under a 30gr BTHP Kindler.

Wink 30gr BOAT TAILS

30gr Kindler BTHP 9.7gr loaded to seat base at bottom of neck. Essentially 95% full case. A safe load in my chamber. Using Rem7.5SR and 40° shoulder case with 12.75gr H2O capacity in a tight chamber.
It shoots very nice, I have no idea what the velocity is, but the pressures according to QL are above 49kPSI since it indicated 9.4gr would put it in that range with the 30gr Berger flat base.

Be careful.

Loaded in mine not yours, be safe start at below 9.0gr H4198.

Edit:

I did chronograph these finally, with 9.7gr H4198 and 30gr Kindler BTHPs, they run about 2910fps.

Default 17vha reduced load

For a flyweight load I tried 2.0 grains of IMR700X under a 25gr Hornady HP Moly coated in unfired fiocchi brass, seated out to touch the lands.

I was pretty happy. Groups seemed to fall under 1/2 inch fairly regularly from a 16&1/4" barrel nobody would think should group better than 1 inch.

A 1 in 9" twist Redman barrel liner is the heart of the barrel. I will never underestimate the satisfaction of doing a job myself, or a Redman barrel liner carefully lapped and carefully chambered.

Maybe it was a fluke that the first load I tried was fairly accurate, so I will try a few others up to about 2.3 grains of IMR700X in 0.1gr increasing increments.

Default 17HMR replacement

Update 2.68gr H-S700X 20GR XTP CCI400 ok if loaded just before touching the lands for the ultralight barrel.

2340fps generally the norm for this load, it essentially duplicated the 17HMR 20gr XTP CCI load. Accuracy was not really tested since range was 25 yards. Groups are about .25" at 25 yards, so all in all it is not bad as a centerfire replacement for the 17HMR.
