expanded primer pockets are an indication of a load that is past the elastic limits of the brass .ie TOO HOT

Loads too hot for that brass. Of all commercial brass, Hornet is the weakest.

If this is Hornady brass, some of it came with loose primer pockets to start with. If they were tight, and are now loosening off after a couple of reloads, the other two ffellas are spot on, you are quite a bit overloaded. By the time you are stretching brass enough to open up the primer pockets you are getting WAY past safe limits.

If they are loosening off after one load, STOP immediately, pull all loaded ammo, and start over!!!

Agree that loose primer pockets on new Hornady brass can be an issue right from new... but if they were originally tight and now loose after just a couple of firings then yes, your loads are WAY too hot

One work around I discovered while working with RWS #4033 primers is that they are very slightly larger in diameter than Federal 205M so they fit just a touch tighter than 205M's.

Are you saying it was factory loaded brass and after the first shot, then primer was loose ? Or after you reloaded and shot them ? If the latter, then your loads are to hot and pressure is opening the primer pocket. Bill K

There was a reason that Hornady was staking the primer pockets on some 17HH lots last year. I noticed that I can't get primers to sit flush in my Hornady once fired factory or Hornady new brass(made last year). I have no problem seating the primers flush in the fireformed PPU 22 Hornet brass, so it might be time to cancel some backorders for Hornady brass and stick with fireforming PPU
