Smile G'day from Oz

G'day folks,
Pleased to meet you all.

I live in the New England region of Australia and love shooting.
I use a 17cal to shoot rabbits and foxes.
I look forward to discussing different topics here.

Cheers,
Tony

I've followed the Nikal cartridges for some time, are you the creator?

Good to have you here.

Hi Adam,
Yes I am the creator of them. Thanks.
I have just upgraded my 17 Nickal, as the .310 Cadet cases, were not up to the higher pressure and are coming apart.
I have designed one, using 223 brass and made it 1.5" long. It's in-between the 17 Fireball and the 17 Javalina. I should be able to get 3700fps, easily at lower pressures. I have test fired one round and a bump on the butt, got it out of the chamber. I still have to fit one of my rimless ejectors in there yet. Job for today

L to R, Original 17 Nickal rimmed, 17 Fireball, 17 Nickal, 17-222.

The 17 Nickal rimmed looks neat. Is it made from 38 special brass?

Welcome Tony.
Bunch of folks from your island hang around here.

Far as the cases, contact RayH, sure wish Don was still around but,
think his health may have given out as he hasn't posted in over a yr now.

Sicero has several similar too IF I recall right.

No matter, yours look great and vel sounds just right too.
Looking fwd to your input here.

Hi Aaron,
No, it's made from the original .310 Greener case, that they put in the Cadets.
The brass is just too thin in the walls.

The rimless ejector is fitted and I have fired some pressure test loads, this afternoon.
Extractor works like this.......
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oaf5...Kw4Nqlyonvn5iQ

Test loads so far have been....
20g Varmageddon bullet, moly coated x 18.5g of BM2 x CCI BR4 primer.
" x 19g "
" x 19.5g "

All extracted easily, but with the 19.5g load, the primer was just cratering a little. I think this will my max load for this rifle.
With the Martini's, you can't have any kind of primer protrusion, or else the breach block won't tip down easily, jamming the rifle.
