Default 17 Calibers

Goggle them up and you will see slight changes in measurements, length of the case's used to form each. Not a bunch, but enough to vary the powder capacity. Bill K

The internet search engines will help in the dimensional info, the SAAMI site will have the 17 remington for sure, the others probably not, but lots of info on the net.

That said, there is a search engine here on this site. That will only search on this site here though; which really has a wealth of info. Wildcats here are not the exception.

I think all of the mentioned cases are fairly close in performance. Some feature some sharper shoulders etc, while others are just necked down parents.

The old 17 Remington is probably the first commercial 17 centerfire in quantity, I believe it is based on the old 222 Remington Magnum rather than the slightly shorter 223 variants. Been around a while, and guess still is.

The 17/223 was/is an old wildcat that utilized the surplus in most cases 223 brass. The brass is prevalent one might say in 223 version, necking cases down for the 17/223 etc is fairly common among shooters.

The 17/204 uses the newer 204 Ruger case as a basis. I am the impression that the 204 is a necked down 222 Remington Magnum case, but I am not up on that very well. Some here shoot this case.

The Predator is essentially a blown out 17 Remington, longer body(shorter neck), sharp shoulder as I recall. Gives some increase in velocity, but as in most things, everything to their own choices. I kinda think it was aimed at heavier, longer 17 cal bullets for coyotes. Just a guess on my part. I suspect that it is probably the speed king of the four.

One would have to scrutinize the 4 cases and read a good bit to understand all their nuiances. Kinda like coffee, unleaded or not........... Some of these require custom type reamers and dies to a greater or lesser degree, while 17 Remington is full commercialized.
