He'll love it! Mine is an Encore with a 20" PacNor 1-11 twist, and shoots Berger 40s and Sierra 39s beautifully. Mine has a .229 neck (just like my .20 VarTarg).

I would recommend a 1-11 twist barrel unless you think you want to shoot bullets heavier than 40 grs. There is some load info on accurateshooter.com . The VV powders appeared to do well. I shot mine this AM with N-135 @ 27.7 grs. & accuracy was good, but was a little disappointed in velocity @ 3860 fps. Working on some Lapua brass now & hope it will be better than the old Norma I started with.

Default 20ppc

What sort of rig are you going to build? If you are shooting off a rest or bipod & not using a suppressor, I would probably make it up with a 26" barrel. I recommend the 11 twist for 40's because it gives you plenty stability insurance without spinning the bullet up too much. I am changing all my "big" 20's to 11 twist & dropping down to 32 grain bullets in the smaller (20VT) cartridges with 12 twist barrels.

I built a custom 20PPC 6 years ago for fox shooting.
Best fox I have ever used!

Only use 40gr V-Max out of a 26 inch 1in12 Lilja at 4000.
The most accurate gun I have owned and shot, ever!
There is a reason the PPC case is used in Benchrest!

Bolt face size seems to always comes up when this case is mentioned and as a few have said the PPC case can be used in a 308 bolt face with no problems at all!

Brass price is a mute point when the number of firings you get from a PPC case is taken into account.

I will always have a 20PPC!
In fact I am building another one as we speak.

Glenn

i Just recently acquired a Dakota varminter in 20 ppc. So far I’m only at the fireform stage but i’m able to shoot in the 3s fairly consistently at 4050 off bags. Rifle is heavy 1:12 Douglas shooting 39 sbks over 26 gr.R10X.
Will be taking it out this weekend for distant ground squirrels and possibly some chucks.
