Would be much simpler to hunt down a Rem 788 in 30-30. Nothing to do then but work up a good load and shoot.

Kiff makes a 30 American bolt for the 700 and would be perfect for the 30-30.

Set up as a single shot, I have built over a hundred Remington 700 bolt action rifles chambered in 30-30 Winchester...

There is one thing I can say for certain, a bolt action rifle in 30-30 (or even the 30-30 Ackley Improved) will probably be THE MOST ACCURATE .30 caliber rifle you will ever shoot!

Here is a list of specs of the last one I built:

Remington 700 action / blue printed / set up as a single shot / lightweight firing pin with heavy duty spring

Rifle Basix trigger / 8 oz.

Shilen Select Match stainless steel barrel / 1-10" twist / #7 barrel contour / 25" / muzzle brake

30-30 Winchester / 30-30 Ackley Improved

Oversize recoil lug

H-S Precision stock / glass bedded

Weaver scope base / Burris Signature Zee rings

Vortex 6.5X-20X-50mm

When all was said and done after load development, 100 yd. groups averaged 1/4" or less and 200 yd. groups averaged 1/2" and 300 yd. groups were always an inch or less...

Some of the most accurate bullets tested were as follows:

Sierra 110 gr. Hollow Point

SPEER 130 gr. Hollow Point

SPEER 150 gr. Grand Slam

Hornady 155 gr. A-MAX

Powders: H-4895 / Winchester 748

While a bolt action 30-30 is a long range cartridge, and it doesn't hit like the hammer of Thor, nor does it have a lightning bolt trajectory, it is a dream to shoot! Very accurate, mild recoil, easy to load for, very effecient, and it is very accurate!

nothing ive used hits like a 30-30. ive had to trail deer 4-500 yards after a .223/308/243 blew through the lungs.

furthest ive had to trail a 30-30 through the lungs was the distance I shot it at.

One, if thinking of buying already done deal, might consider a Winchester 54 as a possible.

788's and 340's ought to be out there as well.

those that appear on auction places have huge reserves, aapparently they are all worth north of 900$ now...

Sure could try to reload the .308 to 30-30 but the bullets I love are not on the commercial market, damn Winchester...

Default 30-30

Somewhere on the WWW a man wrote of building a 30-30 on a 700 ,a 17 twist barrel and the light weight BR bullets and it would compete with a 30 BR.Might have been on 6 BR or Benchrest Central. It kicked a lot of butt at his club shoots after being chastised by fellow shooters. Good article.
