.20 VT or .221 FB
I am ready to send AB my L46 and a #4 Wilson blank. I have a 1-12 .224 and a 1-12 .204 blank laying on the bench. I also have 300 pc of Remington .221 brass and a set of .221FB dies, as I was 100% sure I was going to go with the FB. Then after reading a bunch of enablers talk about the magic of the .20VT, in a moment of weakness bought a .204 Wilson blank. I just ran the ballistics on the VT with a 32 grain bullet at 3700 and the FB with a 40 grain Vmax at 3450 and other than the FB having around 10% more energy, I really am not seeing what the big advantage is for either. I already have a .204 and a .20 Practical so I understand the draw to the .20's. I have a lifetime supply of powder 8# of A2200 data, for either and more than plenty of bullets for each. With all the great brass for the .221 available now I am leaning hard to the .221. Please explain why one is much better than the other.

20 VT or 221FB
I have both, but find I am using the 20VT more than I ever did the FB. It is just one accurate and amazing round. Go for it. Bill K

I'm moving toward more .20 calibers. Down to two .223s and plan to rebarrel one of them to a .20 Practical. So I would vote VarTarg,.
On the other hand, I've never had a .221 Fireball and I sort of want one of them too. Good luck with the choice. |

I like the way Charlie thinks. My last build was a 221FB/20VT switch barrel on a Kelbly Atlas action.

Also agree with Charlie, but if I had to choose between the two, and own Cooper's in both calibers, I'd go with the VT, as you really have to experience it in the field on critters for it to really show you it's true nature.
It's also no slouch on paper either, but then again so is the FB. If you're looking for a rifle for the field, then go VT!

I just have one question. How do you figure ONLY 8# will last your lifetime? Maybe you don't shoot much. Shucks, I used up two jugs of it just on .223's one year. and five of 'em in four years. Great powder for sure. Shocked me when they took it off the market a few years. My supplier had a bunch of it, so I bought 6 jugs just so I wouldn't run out. Guess what? Yeah, long ago!!
