I like the little Ruger 77. I only have centerfire types, one in 17 Khornet and one in 22Khornet. You will have to fuss with them usually, but makes up a nice rifle. Not a 1/4" rifle, but guess they were never intended to be that, just a nice carrying, hunting type rifle.
I have a couple of 17HM2's that I like. One is a BSA martini international with a Shilen #17 barrel; the other is a Ruger No.1 again with Shilen barrel. The little 17HM2 case is pretty remarkable; guess the bullet really helps out. |

Due to me being a cheap sob, I bought both NEF M2 and HMR's along with
a few boxes of shells when they first came out. Think ten boxes of each. Still have about six boxes of M2's and only one of HMR. Believe the rest of those walked off when all those things were stolen while I was out sick. After foxhunter sent me a VR cartridge to look over and some load data. I just had to have one and didn't have the funding. Used the HMR for my own build of the .17VR. Real hassle getting it to work right. Had two guys on the board here then that offered to help out. Thanks to Larry Trotter and Paul Rogers. No idea what happened to Paul to make him drop off. Chambering was a bit different from the Cooper M-38. While dealing with Kevin Weaver on another rifle build I took both these to him and had him recut the chambers to match. Mighty unhandy having two rifles for the same thing and both chambered different. Just wish I could get out and warm the barrels up on p/dogs as the plans were in getting them. There's a FULL .30 cal can of ammo in there just waiting for such use.
