I have a New Vaquero (SAA size frame) in 45 Colt and a same size Blackhawk in 44 Spl. Either one can be loaded to put a 250 gr. hardcast flat nosed SWC 1000fps. That will go through a bear or elk. You don't want an expanding bullet especially on bear; go for one which will punch through. The 45 and a 4" 629 are my carry guns for bear. Haven't needed to test the theory but all my friends who have stress you don't want a bullet which deforms on Yogi's skull.
