The Blackjack co. makes a 131 gr .257 bullet with a high b.c. for those that like longe range.

My 25 caliber is an old one. It is a 25-20 single shot in a Remington number 3 Hepburn. Not a speedster but fun to shoot.

I have a pair of 25-06 so I'm in for the adventure. Haven't broke down and included one of them in the prairie dog arsenal, but maybe sometime.

I was trying to figure out the parent brass. Kinda looks like a 460 S&W in a way. Then I thought it reminded me of the 25 Souper like in a 88 or 99, but the 1/2 inch head was not right to the posting dwg.

I am a fan of the .257 diameter. I edition to a falling-block in 256 Win Mag, I also have a Contender carbine in 257 Raptor.

There is some good history on the 25-284 that you might be able to leverage on your project.

25 cal
Bought my first centerfire rifle in 74, a Rem 700 ADL in 25-06. Killed maybe 10 deer with it and have loaned it to friends and they have killed half dozen deer and pronghorn.
I’ve not hunted with it in over 35 years. But I’ll never sell it. Acquired a custom 257 weatherby from the estate of a hunting buddy, in 2002. That’s my go to 25 caliber since I acquired it. |

I use to have a custom made .257 air rifle made by Extreme Big Bore Air Rifles.
I was a little disappointed that about a 2 1/2" group at 100 yards was the best it could do. It really dropped off after a 100 yards for FPS & accuracy. |

I personally feel a .25-284 chamber would perfectly accommodate a .25-7.5 Swiss case if the bolt face was opened up to .510", however it's too long to fit in most short action magazine boxes and IMO a bit of a powder hog for the velocities you get. The end result of this project should net something along the lines of a "magnum" .25 Souper. |
