G'day Bill, while they may have the same overall length. the 22-204 has a longer body and shorter neck, the same as the 204 R has a longer body an shorter neck, it is just a simple neck up from 204 to 22 and use 204R brass

Had a bit of a play last weekend .
I loaded up some tes tloads starting at 27 grains of 4198 behind some 40 vmax and increased them at .2 grain increments.
Then shot them over a magneto speed as well as a Chrono.
I got to 28 grains with easy extraction but cratered primers. Velocity was 4240 FPS accuracy was .2 out of a Sako 85 with a factory barrel

Oh yes thank Camel

I've been shooting one for around fifteen years. The year brass for the 204 came out I built a 25-204 to duplicate the 257 Kimber(25-222 Rem Mag Improved) 100gr partitions at 2850 fps using off the shelf dies and no fire-forming, it worked so well I had a 22-204 Reamer made and built it, it is one of my favorite pelt hunting rounds with a 40gr NBT at just a hair under 4000fps.

I get all the same questions and you have to think of a 22-204 as a 222 Rem Mag Improved 30 degree w/no fire-forming.

Being enamored with the 204 case I built a 6mm-204 and use it for a platform to shoot Lead Frees at coyotes.

22-204 at work

Great thread going here. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Have any of you played with the 53 or 55 grain V Max in this chambering? Interested in realistic expected velocities and terminal performance on coyotes. Looks like case capacity is within about a grain of the 22 Nosler? Have a lot of 204 brass to use up....

Interested to hear your findings.

I'm not a big V-max fan other than the 58gr in my 6mm-204 and 6x45mm. I haven't experimented with the 22-204 very much. The 40gr NBT was so accurate and the Hammer of Thor on coyotes without wrecking fur that I've stayed with the same load since the beginning. The only experimenting was with the 50gr Varmint Grenade, in fact the coyote pictured above was killed with the VG. Our state had been making sounds of going all lead free so I wanted to be able keep hunting and not be home knashing my teeth over no suitable ammo. I never ran the VG load over a chrono just found an accurate load and killed coyotes with it.

I am loving this cartridge better than 223 AI performance with no case forming.

Brass Quality is my biggest bugbear

Love your work Ackleyman please keep it up.
