19 Calhoon "comparison"
Went out for a high country hike yesterday. Hit up some areas I haven't been this season. Grass is crazy high, but I still was able to manage a nice day shooting columbians.
Temps were mid 60's in the mountain air. My kind of temp in mid July. I was curious to see what difference I could detect between the 32gr Sierra Blitzking and the Calhoon 28gr DBHP. Chrony Data is from 22" PacNor barrel, 1-13" twist, 80 degree F Temp The 32gr Sierra load is 13.2gr AA1680, Velocity right near 3250 FPS The 28gr DBHP load is 14.5 AA1680 for 3560 FPS My browning A bolt Micro medallion chambered by Greg Tannel in 19 Calhoon Hornet has become my "favorite" in the month or so that i've owned it. Thanks again Carl I also chatted with Jim Leahy from Calhoon yesterday evening when I got home from my hike. He is fresh out of 28gr DBHP bullets (I got 1,000 from him a few weeks ago), so I'll have to wait to stock up on those until he gets another batch built up. He said he was working on making 32gr bullets right now and that it will be towards the end of year until he is back in the 28gr'rs. Jim says HI. I also talked to him about .19 badgers and Browning A-Bolts..........I may just have a donor laying around here. I find the 32gr and 28gr nearly indistinguishable in performance on "diggers" out to 125 yards (my farthest shot yesterday). I think if I had to "choose one" for maximum destruction in yesterdays comparison, it would be the 28gr DBHP. However, it's a small sample and I shot more with the 28gr DBHP than the 32gr Sierra. Cool thing is my scope is zero'd for the 32gr load at 100 yds. I can leave my elevation zero alone and I'm 3/4" high with the 28gr DBHP and I just have to move my windage 5 clicks left to be zero'd with the 28gr DBHP. So, I have my turrets zero'd and just moved my windage dial appropriately in the field and on the fly when jumping back and forth testing bullets. Worked a treat. I hope you enjoy the pictures. There's no better way to beat the valley heat than to head up in to the mountain and find some varmints. The .19 Calhoon Hornet sure tears them up. 28gr DBHP Destruction...... Thanks for the photo's and story SW. Looks like they both do a good number on those squeeks. Hard to tell which one is the better of the two. Looks like you are still having a great time out and about. BIll K

Thanks Bill. I agree, both bullets are wicked nasty on squeak sized subjects'. I'm excited/curious to see which works best for me on called coyotes. A few months from now and I'll start testing. Hope your enjoying this mild summer Bill. Here's another 28gr DBHP victim from around 90 yards............ Last edited by Screaminweasil; 07-17-2019 at 05:35 PM. |

Nice comparison and it looks like you had a great time! Those 28s are destructive! That Browning is a beauty!
