Default .17 remington? For the remington experts

Hi guys. Did remington ever offer the 700 bdl varmint special in .17 remington? Even in a special run?
I'm getting conflicting answers.
I'm on the hunt for one if they are indeed out there. Being Canadian makes the hunt harder no doubt. But knowing if they are out there would help.
Thanks Rob.

So it appears the answer is no. I swear I've run across one before but my memory isn't what it used to be. Thanks.

I have owned a couple of the above 17 Remington 700VS Varmint Synthetic rifles that I re-barreled to a 222REM and 20TAC. I have also a couple of stainless 700VS Varmint Synthetic Part 29719, I re-barreled one into a 6x45mm.

Remington has had some nice rifles in great calibers, wish they still made some of them.

I have never seen one of the old Varmint Specials (wood stock version) in 17 Remington, but I have seen them in the 700 Classic yearly model they used to put out.

The original BDL style wood stocked Remington Varmint Special was never offered in 17 Remington. This rifle is not the same rifle as the later Varmint Synthetic rifle.

The 17 Remington was originally offered in the BDL sporter version.

A call to Remington's custom shop may be the cure. Might come in the shape of a 40X though. A better option may be to keep your eyes peeled for a well used varmint deuce or 223 and have it rebarreled to 17 Rem.

Just grab a used one in a more common calibre and have a gunsmith put a barrel on it for you. You could spend a lifetime looking for a good rifle in a rare form. Have it made with a good custom barrel by a good smith and it will be better than the factory offering.
