Default .17 Rem

Remington introduced the .17 in 1971 in a sporter barrel version, never made it in the true Varmint Special model. They did in 1999 make a few hundred with a glossy blued action, 26" stainless heavy barrel with the skipline checkered walnut wood stock. They made these in a special run for Zanders, I have one and its a shooter for sure.

Thats about as close to the varmint special as you can find. All the other heavy barrel versions, VS, SPS, came with plastic stocks.

I was dumb enough to sell the "Classic" in 17 Remington. I hope the guy enjoys it shooting coyotes in AZ.

Default special

That's it, the Zander's Special, a 2 tone rifle ala Cooper, walnut varmint stock, blue action, stainless Varmint weight barrel in 17Rem. I thought they were late 90's runs. I had a chance on one NIB about 5 years ago on GB, bowed out around 1100.00 and it sold for 1650.00 There were 3 of us bidding on it, we all knew each other, not personally but from different shooting boards. Their wallets were a little thicker than mine.

Are you implying Nosler/Norma .17 Rem. brass is made by Remington?

Probably playing devil's advocate here, but I do have a VS short action 4 screw buttplate stock if you'd like to duplicate....

Default 17 rem brass

Old news that Norma makes some chamberings for Nosler but not sure on the 17 Rem. Remington does not make brass for Norma! Norma would probably be horified to hear that their brass was being compared to Remingtons.

I am just starting to really get acquainted with the 17 Rem after recently picking one up from another board member. Sorry...I might be experiencing late light dopiness but I'm not following. So...are you saying that they don't make their own brass...that they literally don't make brass and its all nickel...or??? And the AR reference???

Thx for the clarifications in advance,

Default Thankful I bought....

My 222,25-06 and 308 BDL Varmint Specials when I did.I would have loved a
17Rem in a BDL Varmint Special to round out the bunch. Also always wished they would have made 22BR and 6BR in the BDL VS too.Would have been a poor mans 40x.Glad I got a 17Rem from Zanders,it has a syn stock with a 26 inch s/s non fluted barrel in the Rem varmint contour.I would look for a 700 BDL VS in 223 and have a good smith make you your 17 Rem,not the same as a factory model, but better.
