Default Who owns a Rem 700 LVSF in .17 Rem?

I just got one in a trade. Georgeous gun!
What is the heavest bullet yours will shoot and did you have to do anything to get it to shoot?
I haven't shot this one yet but will load up some of the 25gr. Berger Match bullets I have and see. I also have 6 factory loads to see what it might do.
Later, Rob.

I have one and it is a very accurate shooting rifle...

The barrel is a 1 in 9" twist, so it should shoot 25 grain bullets very well....

Just an FYI - The length of the bullet is what determines twist rate and not the bullet weight. Longer bullets tend to be heavier bullets, but that is not always the case.

Default i have one

I too love the looks. It used to be very accurate, but appears to have a "speed bump" (Kevin Weaver) in the barrel, that I cannot seem to get out. If the accuracy doesn't come back, it will get another barrel. The only thing I have shot out of it are 25 gr Hornady HP's. It used to shoot in the .4's regularly, with a few smaller groups. I feel I am a better shot now than I was, I hope I can get it figured out.

I'm shooting 30 gr Bergers in mine. It seems to like them. Just got it about 1 month ago. Steel/skim bedded the action, put a Jewell trigger in, and a PTG bottom metal. It has one coyote and two magpies to its credit. Three shots three kills. I have not tried 25 grners in it yet. Really kind fo like it. D

Default guessing...

400? Maybe more, not really sure. I have been diligent on cleaning too, even when PD hunting, I cleaned it in the field, and took enough rifles to not get any of them too hot.

Default Remington Barrel life

I just wondered because I've shot out two .17 Rem. factory barrels in about 1200 rds. each.

Default Yeah,

Was kind of thinking it was a little early too. I am going to try to get it the rest of the way out. I got most of it out with JB's paste, but accuracy hasn't returned yet. No worries though, I have 3- 20 cal barrels sitting here, begging for a mate.

Thanks guys. I am officialy down to 2 centerfires (not for long I hope). LVSF and Tikka 595 both in .17 Rem.
I'm just getting rolling reloading and have already faced my first setback. I got a case stuck in my sizing/depriming die (Hornady). Should I send it back or get the local smith to tell me what to do? He'll be back from hunting in a week or so.

Default Nope.

I would take a socket, that is the same size around as the bottom of the die, drill the primer end out of the case, run a tap into it, place the socket over the die, and screw a bolt , (with enough washers stacked on top to allow the bolt to only get to the bottom of the threads)into the threads on the case, it will pull your case out.

Did you forget to lube the cases?

Good luck.
