Default 17REM. what bullet to use ?

Hi guys,
I've purchased a 17REM that should arrive in either Fridays or Mondays mailbox.
It's a factory TIKKA 595 sporter walnut/blued, 17REM
I'm not sure what twist it is.

Its been about 6 years since I've owned a 17REM which was a heavy barrel SAKO 75 which shot great with Hdy. 25 gr. bullets.

Q. What bullet would be the "most accurate" ?
I have a few choices... BERGER 25 and 30 gr. AND VMmax 20 and 25 gr.

Thanks
AL

Default Tikka

Al,

Good luck with your Tikka. I am on the hunt right now for a 595 HB in 17 Rem. I sold one a few years back and wish I never. I will not sleep until I find one!!!

I have a CZ in .17 Remington and it seems to shoot everythign I've tried very well. I have not tried any of the plastic tipped bullets but the Berger 25 and 30 grain, the Kindler Gold's in 25, 27 & 30 and the Negal 25's have all shot under 3/4" out of a stock gun. I've setteled on Mr. Negal's very accurate 25 grain Target/Varmint #046 which shoot consistantly right at 1/2", and, by the way, you couldn't deal with a nicer man than Mr. Negal.

Default 17 rem

AL.
i have a tikka 595 for 12years now i shot the factory barrel til it melted then rebarelled with a lilja tikka contour replica.the new bbl is laser like with 20vmax .i shoot a lot of foxes at night under a spotlight[lamping]here in the uk they drop on the spot my pet load is 20vmax 24.3gns vn135 i chronoed the load while breaking in the bbl and got 4200fps .
my gun will shoot 20-25 bergers very well but will not shoot 25gn vmaxs to save a life.
as always dont duplicate this load in your rifle.Have fun

dungheap--Here's Chan Nagel's info. Bonners Ferry must be pretty small because I did a little snooping online and found a rural route address for him. Very nice man to deal with and his bullets are top of the line:

C.E. Nagel
5917 Moyie River Road
BONNERS FERRY, ID 83805
(208) 267-2860

Default Bullets

I shoot Nagel bullets exclusively and have been very very happy with them. That and Mr. Nagel is a veritable font of useful information. You cant go wrong by trying a box or two of his fantastic product. Good luck on your new shootin iron!!
