Default Ithaca LSA 55

I recently purchased the above gun and have some questions. The gun is chambered in 222 and is the deluxe model. They are made on the Tikka action and have Bofor steel barrels as did the early Sakos. Fit and finish are head and shoulders above the present day quality- maybe not up to the same quality as a Sako but very pleasing.
The first issue I discovered is that the rear action screw is installed from the top. It is below the scope and is not accessible with a screw driver. I will have to use a right angle ratchet type to remove the action.
The trigger pull is on the heavy side. Is it adjustable?
What accuracy can be expected?
I welcome comments and any experience that you have had with this firearm.

The LSA 55 should be built on the older A series Sako action given its vintage.

The Tikka LSA55 is a completely different action than the Sako L or A series.

The LSA has a drop box magazine, while the Sakos have an integral mag follower and drop floor plate.

Both actions have integral dovetails for ring mounting, but from memory i think the LSA dovetails are not tapered front to back, whereas the Sakos have a taper that ensures that the rings tighten on the dovetail under recoil. The LSA is also D&Ted for bases.

The LSA action has flat sides whereas the Sako action is cylindrical above the stock line then transitions to flats under the receiver.

Google for images of the two actions and the differences are plain to see.

Both actions have very good reputations here in Australia, wi the the Sakos commanding a bit higher prices on the used gun market.

In the Frank de Hass/Dr W van Zwoll "Blt Action Rifles" it says a single pull weight adjustment screw is located inside the lower front of the trigger housing, and turning clockwise will increase pull weight.

Default 55

I have this rifle in HB model and it shoots very well with 55 gr SPSX bullets and Win. 748 powder. Trigger is easily adjustable, mine is just over 20 ounces. Fun to shoot. Mine needs cleaning often to keep excellent accuracy..SX

I bought my LSA 55 as a barreled action, I made a sako stock work for it but would sure like to find a factory stock.

Thanks to all for the input. I mounted a weaver grand slam on it last night. While I had it in the cradle I decided to look for the trigger adjustment screw. As Branxhunter said it is in the Mag well. One of the easiest adjustments there is. Took it down to 2#4 oz. with out a problem. Loaded new WW brass with 23.5 gr of 8208XBR with rem 71/2 primers. Mild load, did not shoot well from a clean bore but the last 10 shots show real promise. My son shot a couple shots and sent them through the same hole at 100 Meters. Again thanks for the information.
