I was interested in what others had to say. I have 6 seaters, that hasn't been used for years, froze up myself. Been working on one, Kroil won't touch the one I'm experimenting with. Heating the sucker with a torch is next.

The moral of the story is---------treat those Wilson dies like your guns and give them a light coat of oil before you put them away! Saved a set of 222 dies for me. I had my Arbor press and 222 dies on the floor in my reloading room, my wife's pug decided to mark his spot on the dies.( die boxes were open) I did not discover it for about 10 days. The outside of the dies took a little bit of 320 cloth to clean them up and sand blasted the knurled areas. Luckily they got a shot of Rem oil after the last use and all the screws worked just fine. totally disassembled cleaned and re oiled everything and they are still providing good service. My son backed over the Pug with his truck about 6 months later, now that's Karma! (the dies were not the only thing of mine he marked)

I'm usually very careful about how I store my dies. Now I'm worried that I'm not storing them properly, especially my swaging dies.

TIA..
Don't feel too bad. As Harold M mentions, they seem to use some alloy that is prone to corrosion. I kept my trimmer wiped like I do a rifle, and my case gages drenched in preservative. My trimmer got some corrosion, and the gages got some slight staining on the outside.

Try getting some "shock value" going. Try rapping the thing wiithout dinging it. Rap it frequently for a while combined with the Kroil other penetrant soaking over time.

Products that I am looking for but can't seem to find no matter how hard I look:
Leopold Scopes, Forester reloading equipment and Victorianox knives.

I video recorded all of my Highpower Rifle matches. Pretty soon I am going to watch them all in reverse order so that I can watch those F Class guys GO HOME and leave us alone so that we can shoot Highpower Rifle.

I have a 8' steel hinge on a panel for the gun safe I'm building.
When I got sick in Nov '12 it was outside where I was working on it.
Hard telling when Rick put things in the shop for me, I was gone til Feb, so likely it spent the winter outside. The hinge was frozen.
The pin is 1/4" dia so it's an expensive hinge and welded on already too.

I mentioned it to Rider and he brought a can of Kroil over. I'd barely
gotten the full length sprayed when he told me to start working it.
I figured a good soaking for a week MIGHT free it up. Wasn't a full
minute before it was freed up. Amazing stuff. I'd never used it before this time.

I'll take those now useless dies and the rifles along with them off your hands so you can get a fresh start with new equipment.

Seriously, I'm only kidding. I hope that you get these dies working again. Now, I'm off to check all my own gun metal for a bit of TLC maintenance.

Default Thank you everyone for your helpful replies!

I've heard of Kroil but have never used it. If I understand correctly, I submerge the whole die in a glass jar of the stuff?

I'll post my results when I get some.

Thank you one & all.

Sorry guys- my memory sucks - it was Acetone and Automatic Trannsmission Oil.

The break out torque required for:

Nothing = 516 ft. lbs.
WD-40 = 238 ft. lbs.
PB Blaster = 214 ft. lbs.
Liquid Wrench = 127 ft. lbs.
Kano Kroil = 106 ft. lbs.
50/50 blend of ATF and Acetone = 50 ft. lbs.

Here's the web address for the testing:

Default Sticky that info

That information sounds like a good candidate for a sticky.

Don't know the value of this info personally, but a few years ago a member of our BMW repair shop group did a comparison of penetrating oils. According to his experience a 50/50 mix of acetone and Dexron ATF gave the best results, and he did compare the mix to a number of commercial products that had good performance reputations. That being said, the mix of kerosene and acetone might be as good or better. Kroil is a good product and I use it quite a bit like many of the rest of you, but just thought I would throw this in in case the Kroil didn't work. Good luck getting your die apart; let us know what worked.
