Default Mossberg and Dicks Sporting Goods

I was listening to a Denver talk show on the way home and the host reported that OF Mossberg has cancelled all future contracts with Dicks and is looking at ways to terminate the current contracts. The stated reason was that Dicks had hired lobbyist to lobby for more gun control. Mossberg stated that they strongly support the 2nd Amendment. Good for Mossberg! Hornady now Mossberg- Who will be the next major manuacture to stand up to the anti's?

So far, Hornady, Springfield Armory and now Mossberg. Let's see Dicks stay in business with just the yuppie clothing and other items, without the firearms and supplies. I believe they will soon find that they made a major mistake going along with the anti-gun crowds and those that want to remove the 2nd Amendment. I would like too see Dicks go bankrupt. Bill K

Fishing probably makes more money than hunting too. My local stores are huge apparel sellers for professional sports teams like the Phila. Eagles, Phillies, Seventy Sixers, etc. They also sell a lot of sports equipment like softball and soccer stuff for kids use in schools and private leagues. Guns are a drop in the bucket. I suspect at some point they will drop firearms entirely.

This^^^^^^^^^^^. Unfortunately, they will be around for a long time as a seller of other sporting goods.

What they did made big news in today's liberal news climate and probably pleased many of their yuppie shoppers, but in terms of their business, it was relatively insignificant.

In terms of buying power........, we're not as important to the big picture everywhere as we'd like to think that we are.

Even so, maybe the schools, etc. that do or have purchased from Dick's and the people connected too them, are hunters/shooters and will consider buying their future items/clothing/uniforms/equipment at other venders. Hopefully. That just might make a dent in Dicks. Bill K

Maybe I am wishing, too much, that the boycott will hurt them. But I can still hope it does.

Maybe.............

In my area, huge consumers of specialty sporting goods do not buy from Dick's. There are other far better wholesale outlets to outfit teams, etc. Dick's makes their huge profits from selling a $30 to them item for $85 to the consumer as fast as they can stock them. Things like running shoes and workout gear.

I doubt that any outdoor items for hunting or fishing ever made Dick's a financial success to begin with. Will losing those sales possibly hurt them? Probably to some extent it will, but they will simply model their business to other things to take up the slack.

If Dick's fails in the next 5 years, it won't be because they quit selling guns. It will be due far more to poor sales projections on high volume/high profit items that they sell. That is what kills every successful sporting goods company as they get bigger and more prominent. Success often breeds failure in competitive markets.........

I really hate to say this but............ If Dick's were to drop all shooting related merchandise AND be vocal about it, they would most likely see a positive change to their bottom line. They would pick up a greater number of new customers than they would lose.

Dick's giving up this segment of sporting goods would be akin to Cabella's getting out of coffee makers or children's toys maybe.
