Wssm?
Anybody know why the WSSM case design died? Brass too thick--overbore??

Just my opinion, but believe there are too many better cartridge designs to work off of. |

One big drawback is you have to have a short-action magnum faced bolt.

I guess too many little things add up to a big thing. I know Norm Johnson used to write some about the WSSM's in Varmint HUnter and really loved the 24 and 25 cal versions.

This is why I like them. I can shoot 223 WSSM, 7mm WSSM, 7mm WSM and 510WSM all with a barrel swap. They all feed fine from the same magazine for me. Maybe most people just get more rifles, but I'm too cheap.

I've thought about a WSSM, a 25 WSSM in a petite little rifle would be the cats-azz for a whitetail rifle but only one source of brass, spotty availability, need for a dedicated action kind of put the kibosh on that for me. It is much easier to build on a .473, Grendel or .378 bolt face with a great selection of brass and actions to work with.
I've had rifles in 250-3000(a few), 257 Robt. (a couple), 25-204(my goto deer rifle now) and a 6.5 Grendel(close enough to a .257 that taking it down to .257 would be a waist of time and money) |

had an ar in 25wssm and it was great, 25-06 in a short case, feed well. was a .50 shooter at 100 yards. shot a doe with it at 425 yards, worked well.

I'd heard that thick case necks in .223WSSM were a "thing", but was it the same "thing" with the larger calibres?

I've had a Dtech built .243 wssm for many years now. One of the positive attributes to the case is that it works in the AR15 platform.
I've shot a few antelope with it. |
