WTB Son's first deer rifle
I'm looking for rifle for my 17 year old for next Fall. Want something more classic. Thinking Kimber in 243 or 7mm/08 or maybe Ruger #1 in 25/06 up to .270 . .280 Ruger 77 tang safety Newer Sako or Cooper maybe too Might even consider pre safety 336 Marlin 30-30

Those Kimber's are really nice. in either of the rounds you mention, it would last him a lifetime. Bill K
(But CZ puts out some nice rifles also, in some of the same calibers.) |

I just recently purchased a Tikka T3x Superlite iin 243 Win and worked up a load for it using the Barnes 80 gr TTSX bullet. I am very impressed with this rifle and would suggest taking a look at it.
This is the first 243 Win I have owned and I think it is a wonderful crossover caliber that can be used from deer size game on down through varmints. |

Don't sleep on a CZ550 .308 or .30-06 or even 6.5x55. Very nice rifles and certainly classic. I know rhey aren't produced anymore but can find them places.

I has a detachable magazine which holds three rounds. Since I bought my CZ 527 in 17 Rem and then this Tikka T3x, which both have detachable magazines, I am really starting to like them. Having mostly Remington 700's my whole life with the steel floorplate I was not sure how I would like them but having rifles now with the detachable magazine, I am enjoying them. |
