Never had an oehler, but have had a couple different chronos. Last one being a magnetospeed. Shot 17 fireball to my 338 edge. No hiccups. Easy to ser up and easy to pack. Dont have to be past the ready line to set up at a shooting range either. It's a no brainer.

I shoot at a membership range, if I had my own range. The chronograph may see more use. Occasionally I even let others shoot a couple through, if they are reloaders. Factory only guys can make due with box numbers.

I have a chrony I bought new 20 years ago for $70 and haven't needed to buy any parts and I bought a magnetospeed because the chrony wouldn't pick up a 17 cal going over 3000 fps. The magnetospeed does a good job reading them

I have had good luck using my Shooting Chrony on my 17 Remington, no problems, just have to have a good day with consistent lighting. I even tried tried using a marker/Sharpie to blacken the bullet to see if that made a difference. No significant difference in readings between naked and blackened bullets shot in 5 shot strings. That experiment was from 15+ years ago. Consistent lighting is the key, in my experience.

I'm always amazed at how effective my Chrony has been during all these many decades. For the money spent, it has given me the most bang for the buck in developing and reloading Wildcats through the years, with the possible exception of my old Ohaus balance scale that I paid 25 bucks for brand new way back when.

My bro had the local welding shop put a 1" plate angled at 35 degree slope
in front of his. It worked. The chronogrph is mounted flat in another 1/4" plate. Strong unit.
My Chrony Beta has a bench-top readout box, connected to the chrongraph with a wire.

Mine worked to 4,500fps when needed.
After me new reamer gets here, it will work for those again.

Mine too. The bench read out is really handy to have.
