Default lead wire

Hope someone can answer my question.

Is a 15 ton hidraulic press strong enough to make lead wire for 224 bullets?
Lead wire is almost impossible to get in my country.
Thanks

Liseo

By the way, the piston that will push the lead through the hole (5 mm) have a 0,7 inches diameter.

You might try a core mold from Corbin or RCE .Try pure lead if availble .

liseo,15 ton probably willwork i would like a larger piston though.alsc make cylinder with a flat bottom and use more holes coming from the sides maybe 6 holes this will reduce pressure. also warm die to 200-250 degrees this will really reduce pressure. george

Ulrich, the holes should be located in the sides or botton of cylinder?

What the diameter holes do you recommend for 224" , 243" and 308" cores with J4 jackets?

A lot of questions and more coming...

Thanks

Liseo, the bottom would be my first choice but the sides should be fine also, for 22 and 6mm .185 dia. for 30cal. 250 dia. george

Default lead wire

Hi guys

While my cores fit the 22 LR formed jackets and J4 .705" jacket perfectly, the cores dont reach the botton on the .930" length .224" J4 jackets. They seens a bit more tapered than the .705".
By the way, my squirt die form a .189" diameter core. I believe that if I force the core, it will seat, but my fear is trapped air.
What do you think?

I have not used the .930" J4 jackets before, but I have used the .800" and they work with my .190" cores.

If you can push the core down into the jacket using light pressure, I don't think you will trap any air when you swage them. That means the air is escaping. If you push the core down and it feels spongy or wants to pop back up, then there it definately air trapped underneath.

no you won't trap air if you can basically push in by hand, but if your worried core seat some then split up the sides and peel jacket away if theres any air pockets you willse them. george
