Thanks for all the info. I’m not looking for air rifles or slower moving lead bullets. I was only trying to figure out why anyone would want or use them.
I do not live in a heavy populated area although I do have one neighbor across the road and another about 3/4 miles of me. I prefer the 17HM2 for back yard work and recently I have got back into shooting the slower 22 LRs and have been having great fun. I can normally talk myself into anything but I don’t recon I’ll be buying a 17 caliber mold anytime soon. However if bullets get hard to buy someday it may be nice to have a mild around just in case.

Dies
Iv have often wondered why a bullet sizing die couldn't be a better solution, since it would allow for a production that avoids melting metal in pots and pouring, why not just do this with dies instead?
With pure lead, shouldn't it be very easy if not easier than pouring into tiny moulds? This is what I was referring to, isn't this what Ron Reed might be using? http://www.swagedies.com/mm5/merchan..._Code=Specials Last edited by 17tbs; 02-05-2020 at 02:37 AM. |

The lack of lubrication grooves might be a killer on that one
along with the price tag.

Lube groves
Yes, but if you can electroplate them in copper, or spray moly coat them, you might get away with it.

Lee has a liguid lube that would probably give them all you need on those small bullets. Bill K

If those had a smaller metplat of exposed lead, then I would have bought at least a few boxes of them. They are a near perfect shape & if given a sharp tim would probably have a better bc than the 30gr Kindler Golds. |

I've got one of the .172 NOE moulds and a 1000 gas checks, Not cast any yet,
You guys down in the states, still have lots off bullet options, since I started shooting .17 hornet, we have lost about 1/2 our bullet options, here in Canada, Z-max gone, 25 Hornardy hollow point, two weights of Berger's, And what's left is now at $30 box of a 100, the NOE mould is just an insurance, that I can still shoot my .17 cal rifles, and at sum point in time, I will cast up a few hundred, and try them out. |

There are a lot more bake on coatings now than there were a few short years ago. I would say coat them, then run through a push through sizer to make them uniform.
Jacketed is tough enough seating. I won’t go down the rabbit hole with a neck mandrel/belling die then try to not shave any coating or lead. If your real energetic, paper patch them :-o. |

LOL You might call that energetic or perhaps more accurately, frustration personified.
