I have been going to some of the gun shows and they have been using oil filters on the end of there rifles as a dust cover , they sell an adapter to put on the end of a threaded barrel for a specific filter. Says its a grey area, don't know how they do it...

Pretty much beyond a grey area if you catch you with an adapter and filter screwed on to the end of the barrel. I've seen them called solvent catchers, but it's really difficult to clean a loaded rifle with the filter screwed on the muzzle.
Even if you beat the charge, your legal fees would be considerable.

No grey area about it. And I bet if you check, more closely, you will find they need to apply for a get the proper paperwork, fees and all, from ATF, as they do for suppressers. Bill K

I've been looking for a subsonic/quiet load for my 17 hornet with the little 17gr vmax. JMB says it should be stable at 1000fps out of my 1:9. Wasn't a proper trial but when I got Trail Boss down to around 1350pfs MV it was keyholing at the 100yd target
