Default I need a new .378 or .422 bolt face project.

I've got a spare Savage short action with both 223 and SPC bolt heads. Of the calibers I haven't played with yet, which should I go with?

222 Remington Magnum (oldy and goody)
224 Valkryie (lets ride that band wagon)
25-45 Sharps
277 Wolverine
6.8 SPC

I've already got a 222 Rem, 223 Rem, 6x45 in the stable, and this will be primarily for target shooting.

That 277 wolverine looks interesting on paper.

No big bores allowed on this forum. My vote...20 Valkyrie.

They're all bringing small caliber energy

I've also thought about a 22 Nosler barrel, SPC bolt face, use 6mm Hagar brass, and see if I get a little more than standard 22 Nosler brass.

Of those listed, the 222RM and Valkyrie are the best reported accuracy. Inherent accuracy if you wish. The 6.8 is kind of a dog there I believe. I don't know anything about the 277 or sharps.

From what I can tell, the valkyrie has better numbers on paper than the nosler, but the nosler has slightly more case capacity. And it's apples to oranges, since Nosler doesn't have data for heavy bullets. I assume they made the valkyrie shorter, with a longer neck, so it can fit the mag length with 90 gr bullets and not have half the bullet back in the body. I also assume, throated correctly (longer) to keep long bullets seated at the base, the nosler might actually top it?

Just rambling....

Take a look at the 220 Thunderbolt. Pretty much what you're suggesting and supported with dies.
