Default The "Ultimate" small caliber rig??

Something in the 17 or 20 caliber range? Not a "lite weight sporter" for sure.
At least it doesn't cost anything to dream.

I used to own a jay young rail gun (many of those pictured in the link are young rails) --- awesome piece of machinery but too damn heavy to be practical for anything but shooting occasional small groups. I got to cross that off my bucket list in my late 20s. Glad I had one for a few years but don't regret moving on either. Nothing has raised my blood pressure more than shooting groups in the high .2s and low .3s with a rail --- especially when all I wanted was a bunch in the .1s. Mine was much harder to tune (and keep in tune) than I had predicted.

A good tuned rail will teach you about the effects of the wind. The rail kinda takes you out of the picture during the actual firing.

When I first saw a railgun on the shooting line, I saw some with two scopes on them, big and little; (mirage) but they did not use them very often really, twas a pretty day. Just kinda sit back like in a easy chair and watch conditions, occasionally fire a shot, or a string of shots.

Seems like in later years, the good rail shooters were pretty quick. A good condition would come up, and they would machine gun them down range, very orchestrated affair.

Even remember one guy that put a bungie cord on a rail, to get it to return to battery more quickly for that edge in speed. Perhaps they wrote a rule on that back then.

Precision instruments to be sure; for specific applications. A lotta skill in those guns, too bad tis a dying artform. Last local unlimited shoot I went to had about a dozen guys there.

Always wanted a rail, still have a Hart #4 big bag gun. Got to shoot a rail one time at a range, still remember how it made me feel; on the bucket list.

Default Rail Guns

About the only time anyone holds a match for unlimited anymore is at the IBS and NBRSA Nationals. At one time, years ago, they shot the unlimited at the Super Shoot.

Stephen Perry... I was A-OK not hearing that name for awhile. Wonder how the CA BR scene is these days.

Those are some amazing looking guns. What kind of cost to get into one?
