Default 17 Ackley Hornet CZ build

I am going to finally build me a 17 Ackley Hornet on a CZ 527 action with a Shilen barrel. Hoping to make a nice walking groundhog gun and somethin to reach out on 175-200 yard Fox Squirrels this Fall!

How's your project going HillbillySniper? Some pics would be awesome if you're making progress.

Well so far the shilen barrel has not showed me any promise. 1.5 inch groups are all ive been able to get. This was a take off shilen barrel that was a 17 mach 4 and i cut it down and threaded and chambered to 17 Ackley Hornet. I have one other Douglas barrel to try next.

What bullet/powder/primer combinations have you been using? I've gotten lots of 1 1/2 inch groups with mine, but feed it what it likes and it will go in the half inch range, sometimes less. Just a matter of finding the sweet spot with the right combination. Midsouth 20gr Varmint Nightmare Extreme bullets can give surprisingly good accuracy, as will 20gr V-Max.

I tried AA1680 powder with 20 V-Max, 25 Berger Target, and 25 V-Max.

What's the twist on the barrel? You'll need at least an 11 twist for VMax.

Like Bill K said, CFE BLK, definitely well worth trying. N120, AA2200 and 4198 (IMR and Hodgdon) all perform well in my rifles. AA1680 is OK, but cleaning is way more difficult with it.
