Happy Valentine's Day Rifle.........(UPDATE with ACCURACY)
Never owned a Ruger 10/22 in my 34 years of life. Figured it was about time. Got this on Clearance at the local Bi-Mart. $250 is what I paid.
They had a standard "birch stock" model that wasn't a take down for $239 sitting right next to this beauty.......kind of a no brainer. Nice little gift for the day. Pretty little stick of wood on her to boot. Last edited by Screaminweasil; 02-15-2018 at 11:08 PM. |

For all kinds of plinking, it's really hard to beat a 10/22. Good snag, Austin.

Hate to throw water on the celebration but the one I had was very disappointing for accuracy, with a normally mounted scope the barrel and scope are mounted on the two separate halves and it doesn't do anything for its accuracy. Hope your's is the exception.

Yeah, I've heard scoping these isn't the best idea, due to what you just mentioned. I plan on using the iron sites (which as you know are mounted on the barrel). Should be a more consistent platform for accuracy that way. We shall see. I bought it for a plinker. If I can hit a soda can at 50 yards everytime with the irons I'll be happy. I've got several other rimfires for accuracy work. |

Copy that, for irons sights it should be fine within its limitations.

Gerald, I can see where mounting a scope could/would be problematic with these take down 10/22 rifles. I had thought about my intended uses before making the purchase and I'm glad I did. I think if I tried to mount a scope I may sorely be dissappointed with the accuracy. However, I made it out this afternoon for the first range session. With Irons, it didn't dissappoint. Will be a sweet little jack rabbit buster. Accurate as I can shoot with Irons. I took it down and put it back together 1/2 dozen times and had no issues with accuracy or point of impact changing (I didn't expect any though since the sights are all on the barrel). I had to drift my rear sight over to the left a bit as I was hitting 1" right at 25 yards. My 1" paster targets were really too small to be able to shoot effectively at 25 yards so most of my shooting was done at 18 yards and then I moved to 12yards towards the end. This target above shot at 18 yards with CCI Mini Mag 40 gr Solids was during a 10 MPH steady cross wind.............funny how far the point of impact drifted during that windy period. 22 LR doesn't have much wind bucking ability, even at 18 yards........haha Last edited by Screaminweasil; 02-15-2018 at 10:58 PM. |

Groups are labeled...........the ones at 25 yards are just as much a testimate to my ability as they are the rifles. I definitely got a "good one" it was very, very, difficult to shoot at 25 yards at the 1" pasters. Need bigger targets next time. That is the reason I mostly shot at 18 yards and then moved up to 12 yards at the end of my shooting session. Anyhow, I'm very pleased. No malfunctions and I shot 300 rounds of ammo........CCI Blazer, CCI Mini Mag, and Federal American Eagle HP. I was able to 10 for 10 hit my swinging squirrel silhouette target at 50 yards rested.............more than once. The squirrel is 2.5" wide by 7" tall..............
