Default Pricey

I don't think you will see many bids on this one. That seems high to me.

Default Rem 600

I bought an earlier version with a plastic rib ( yea man ) for 1/10th of what they are asking. Mine was Rem 6mm. It killed alot of deer in Pa. for 20yrs. The "ball of fire" that came out of that short barrel in low light was something to behold......!!!!

Well, I had one of the real men's versions - the magnum in 350 Reminton Mag Fortunately, I never fired it at night so I can still see. Hearing & shoulder not so good! The guy I traded it to loved it, dropped two elk with two successive shots on a hunt in Colorado the next winter. One of two guns I have ever fired that was truly unpleasant, but probably one helluva big game meat getter.

Default 308 Mohawk

I had one in 308 it was a kicker. I understand Jeff Cooper used this rifle as a design model for his Scout rifle.

the mohawk 222 wasn't that rare, the rare one was the 660 in 222 rem and the 223.

Default Serious collectors will likely pay a bunch....

There are two of them for sale that serious Remington collectors will probably scoop up.... The 222 is fairly rare in the Mohawk, but its "Buy Now" price pales in comparison to this Model 600...

IIRC, there were only about 300-325 of these made in 223 Remington... Its the original Model 600 with the vent rib.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=214574078

Edited to add: Wicki isn't always the total truth, but this is likely very close if not right on...

Remington Arms Model 600 was a push-feed bolt-action rifle produced by Remington Arms from 1964–1968.[1] While it is commonly believed that production ended in 1967[2], according to Remington representatives records indicate that it actually ended in 1968. This Model was the precursor to the Model 660 (manufactured 1968–1971); the Model Mohawk 600 (manufactured 1972–1979); and the current Model 673 (manufactured 2003 – Present).

The Gun was designed to be a guide rifle. Its most noticeable feature was the vent rib barrel. There were approximately 94,086 rifles produced in the available calibers of: .222 Remington, .223 Remington, 6mm Remington, 6.5mm Remington Magnum, .243 Winchester, .308 Winchester, .35 Remington, .350 Remington Magnum.

The rarest of these rifles is the remington 600 mohawk made with full stock in .222, .243 and .308 as only 142 were made in late seventies with a mannlicher style stock. And the second rarest is the one chambered in .223 Remington, as only 227 were produced and most in the final year of production. Although at the time you could order a Model 600 out of the custom gun shop in .223 before it was officially added to the line. At least one Model 600 in .223 came out of the Remington Custom Shop in 1966.

There were several variations in the original production line and they were the: (1) 600 Magnum Carbine, (2) 75th Anniversary Montana Statehood, & (3) 100th Anniversary Montana Territory.

Whoever added the information possibly threw 600 Mohawk information (1972-79) into the mix with the original Model 600 (1964-68) in the sentence that begins, "The rarest of these rifles...."

FWIW.............. And even though its indeed a rare one, I think I'd pass on that price even if I collected them.... My kids would just possibly have to fight over an incomplete collection.....

The 223 has come a long ways since its inception in the late 1950's/early 1960's as a possible military round for the then being discussed "new rifle" to replace the M-14... One cartridge design that it beat out for use in the M-16 was what we now call the 222 Rem Mag.

Also added: This is probably, by source, more accurate that wiki... and if you look at the information here and compare it to the wicki data,, the wicki data appears to be like it is many times; all jumbled together by several folks who walk on each other when adding data.

This data shows 315 rifles chambered in 223 Rem. in the original vent ribbed Model 600. It also shows wiki's 227 Model 600's as being Model 660 rifles in 223 Rem caliber made from 1968-1971. Again, FWIW....
