Anyone add pillars and or bedding to their Cooper 20 VT?
I was looking over my 20 VT Cooper a little while ago and noticed the only bedding is about 1" below the front of the action and about 1.5" forward of the action below the barrel. This little bit of bedding is all one piece and very neatly done. No pillars added and no other bedding on the stock.
Just wondering if anyone has added either. Cooper recommended 46 inch lbs on both receiver screws, tightening the rear screw first. |

46 "/lbs....wow. My Cooper manuals say 25 and 35. Did someone from Cooper tell you this?
I've never messed with the bedding in any of mine.

Cooper told me 35 on front (tighten first) and 25 on back. My VT shoots .3’s and sometimes better and I see no reason to mess with bedding on a Phoenix stock.

Anyone add pillars and or bedding to the Cooper 20VT?
Someone had better call Cooper again, and show which is first to tighten. One said Cooper told them Front first, another said Cooper said Rear first. ??? Do the instruction manuals, with the rifle show which and how much ? Bill K

Everyone seems to have a little different view of pillars and bedding, but me personally, I wouldn't own a wood stocked gun that didn't have pillars and I'm a believer in full action bedding.

Anyone add Pillars and or bedding
Clarify something for me. If a full action bedding is done on a rifle, then why would pillars be needed, other than maybe enclose the action screw/bolts ? Bill K

If you haven't shot it yet, I'd do that before I spent time and money to maybe fix nothing. Coopers shoot extremely well as they come from the factory in spite of the fact that they may not be bedded or pillared exactly like every internet expert says they should be done.
Why re-invent the wheel if the one you have is round? And I would definitely not follow the torque recommendations you have received. Always torque the front screw first and then snug the back one. -BCB
