Default Savage 12FV

It's that time of year. Cabela's has the .204 only for $329. Thinking hard about turning one into a .20 VT. I know, stock is crap, barrel is rough, ugly gun... My .223 I bought last year shot every thing I tried into under 3/4" and 68 bthp 4 in one hole and the 5th opening up to 5/8".

Savages are ugly, but they shoot. Planning to turn one into a 358 winchester soon.
Cabelas also has the remington 700 Adl for 350. Not in small caliber but would work for an action to build from. Honestly the cheapest 700 isn't looking like any better quality then the savage. Guess it comes down to trigger and safety mechanism preference if you leave it stock. Lots of parts available for the savage but not as many as the rem.

Picked up a Savage 116 , SS in .204. Pulled the barrel, sold it and the stock without ever firing a shot. I wanted it for the action. Got about 75% of my money back.
Since then it's been a BUNCH of different calibers. Love Savage because they're so easy to change into just about anything you could think of.

Same on this end, but each day and now pre-fit barrels are available for Rem and Howa, so they are becoming as easy to put other barrels/calibers on also. Bill K

Man does not live by Savage alone.
I LOVE my Remington XP 100 actioned/converted rifle in .221 Fireball.

Default Cabela's Savage

Not a big Savage fan, but I am a "good deal" fan. They had the similar deal last year but with a 100.00 rebate from Savage and in more calibers. I picked up the 204 and it shoots well. Looked down the bore with a scope....some advice here, don't look down the bore , just shoot it.

Haha like I said they are ugly I'm sure inside and out but they perform for me. I mainly use them as tools, hunting guns that will see hard use, like for kids, or as a loaner to your idiot brother in law.
