I have been to their first factory in Kalispell (they bought a new larger building and moved since then) and watched them make barrels.

They were doing a batch for Cooper according to the shipping tags that I observed when we walked past a pallet being prepared for shipment. They had other contracts that were going to well known manufactures also.

They had some innovative and NEW machinery. Their rifling machine was newly built, not a rework of WWII or WWI machines. Staff was working hard and proud of what they were making.

Is cooper using McGowan barrels now?

No, I don't think so since Wilson Barrel bought the company around 2010.

I have not had a chance to go back there for a number of years.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the replies fellas, really appreciate them. tried the 300Winmag last weekend and I must say I am very happy with the results so far, got some very encouraging results so far, 125gn Nosler ballistic tips gave me a couple of groups around the inch, 130gn Barnes TSX got down as far as 5/8th inch, and one group with the 150 gn nosler custom competitions gave me one group at just on 3/4 inch, all at 100 mtrs. I will test some more in the coming weeks as time allows and let you know how they go. Powders used so far are ADI Ar2208, Ar 2213SC. Im a happy camper so far.

Has anyone here used one of McGowans 10/22 rimfire barrels? I'm thinking about ordering a 14 or 15" stainless for a Charger.

Unfortunately I don't have a Mcgowen barrel for a 17 project, but I do have a very nice Lilja sitting on my dealers shelf waiting to be sent to me.
