This is going to make me load up a batch!
I ran around and chased down some 1lb bottles of the more popular powders that showed promise. I started with 4198, lilgun and another I forget now. I went to the 4198 and never looked back, have 3-4 pounds I never opened. I am going to have to give the CFE BLK a try. |

I am shooting a 17hh in a Savage mod 25. I get best accuracy with factory loads. Just haven't found that secret combination for my rifle yet. I have tried 1680, A2200, and CFE Black. So far the 1680 is the worst and the other two are about the same. I am shooting .5 inch groups with factory and .75 to 1.0 groups with my best reloads. It must be me doing something wrong. Burt

I don’t remember using 4198 but it sureclooks good.
I’m one if the few that didn’t have very good luck with N120 and gave the rest of it away to a friend. IMR 4227 in a pistol barrel because it liked that powder. But 1680 in the two rifles. Meteres nicely and shoot great. Sure does leave a coal black nasty looking cleaning patch but the black residue has never been any worse to clean or has it caused a noticeable accuracy issue

My best data from my .17AH came from 1680, 4227 and Lil'Gun.
Newest Handloader magazine did an article on the .17HH and did equally good results with CFE BLK and 1680.
