Just answering a question is all lol

Seriously Matt, there’s a lot of really awesome 17s that are really awesome and some are able to get the job done without an expensive set of custom dies.

That said and keep in mind that I haven’t done that much shooting in the last few years I have to say that the 17 Jav Imp is probably one of the most efficient 17s made. I believe that per grain of powder it’ll out perform anything else I’ve loaded for. Running at velocities at or greater than a 17-222 or greater case capacity but with less powder is pretty amazing.

As long as I’ve know Ray, I’m still not sure if he is truely a small caliber genius or if he just got lucky??? I know it’s yes on the first account but no matter how you look at it he came up with an amazing sweet 17!

FWIW I’m running brass that had slightly enlarged primer pockets (the primers almost fall in) and I’ve ran them at a high velocity and to date have never had a set of dies made (neck sizing only).

The barrel is a rechambered cooper 17 Mach IV (that never shot well). Then I make a threaded bushing for it to fit a CZ. Sadly I had it setup for failure and it still was an over achiever.

I still need to do a 20 Jav Imp so one if that’s days!

Matt my reamer print book has been lost but I have the dimensions. Base is .3734, shoulder .366, neck .198. Base to shoulder is 1.1848, base to case mouth is 1.535 with a .250 neck. This reamer has made 6 different cases from the 17 Duster to 17 Boomer. I run mine with a 25 gr VMax just under 4000 but have loads over 4100 without excessive pressure. Hope this helps.

Default Thanks guys...

Curious who has the reamer now.My thought was to clean up a 17Mach1V.
I really have most of my 17caliber bases covered, but thought about a purebred in the stable.

that's DocEd, here on the board. And if you like the 17 you'll LOVE the 20 Version. Ray's is a laser. Eggs at 300 are no match for the 20 Jav Imp. It scrambles them with boring regularity.
