Default Powder Valley

Was just looking thru things.

Like all year so far: out of stock on primers.

They're fairly well stocked up on powders though.

Price's are getting out of hand. Some 8# are $250 now.

Many others range down to $150 or so.

IF you've got the change and need powder better get it ordered

before they sell out again.

With the volumes of vermin I usually shoot annually, I like to keep 3-4 years worth of components on hand. I simply couldn’t round up the supplies I will need in the next year in the current environment.

I hope things ease up soon.

Neil:
That's why I shared this info.

Many of us load over winter.

I don't need more powder, just saw the prices and filled my panties!
Decided since i have it, get a jug of the one's I'm out of.

Wish they'd stock up on CCi caps.

Don't really like using SR's in pistol shells. Glad I got 20,000 SR's
back in '11 when i dropped into their place. Would have left another
grand if they'd had better stock at the time.

$250 a jug is a lotta bucks to put on the shelf.

I remember when I was young the old timers would tell me-

"If you find a good fishing hole shut your mouth!"

I also remember fishing tournaments as an adult, I always found my own spots while the young dudes would just take my spots but I was always respectful to leave the older guys spots alone. Now with the internet all you have to do is point out a place and you have just notified the world.

that's fine, I don't want PVI to fold up for lack of sales.

I already placed my order, all i'll ever need of powder.

NO reason for me not to share this info.
There's been lots of posts asking who and where has such supplies.

George, what should I expect if I use small rifle primers in small pistol cartridges. Say 9mm?

Powder and caps have been a good store of value ($) for many years now. I don’t see it changing. I don’t think they have ever gone down in value.

Adding some live experience - I have done it with CCI SP swapping to SR primers. According to a note over on the SKS forums.

http://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php?topic=56422.0

The CCI-400 ran the same as the CCI-550 small pistol magnum for me (357 Mag) - midrange loads. I am almost out of the small rifle standard primers now - oh well. Used CCI-400 in 9mm and no change noted (no chrono). I didn't have primer strike issues in a few 100 rounds.

REMEMBER - when changing primers, especially max loads, work back up with the component change.

From SKS forum - NOTE 1: According to Speer/CCI Technical Services - Both the CCI 550 Small Pistol Magnum and CCI 400 Small Rifle primers are identical in size. Both primers use the same cup metal and share the same cup thickness. Both primers use the same primer compound formula and same amount of primer compound. They can be used interchangeably.

If that is so, they why don't they mark them "s/r & s/p " and stop the confusion as to what they work in ? Just a thought.

Don't know about all the hype and bullshit.

I can't tell any difference shooting them.

Be safe though and abide by the speed laws!!!!!
