CZ 527 info
I'm wondering if anyone has any information on the CZ 527's that were offered with the English walnut stocks. I have a 527 in 22 Hornet that I purchased third hand. The second owner picked this rifle up used locally at Bob Wards in Missoula after special ordering one elsewhere that came in with a green laminated stock instead of the standard walnut. I was there when he purchased it. When he needed funds to get a Ruger 77/22 Hornet instead and offered it to me I jumped as I already knew what this one is capable of. The reason I think it may be one of the English walnut stocks is the checkering is very slightly different. The little center diamonds (not the main checking pattern) are larger on the wrist and the forend. It also wears a Pachmayr recoil pad instead of the standard CZ pad. It has a 2007 date stamp which is the correct time frame for the English stocked rifles and every picture that I've seen of these special stocks have these same outsized center diamond checking and Pachmayr pads. I don't know this rifles original history and just looking at the stock wood doesn't give any clue as to it's origin. For a CZ it's pretty plain in fact. So anyone with some ideas.

Interesting.. Did those models also have the short magazine, as shown in the photo, or is that a altered item ?

The top rifle is an American in 223 with the trigger gaurd altered so it will take the factory 3 round magazine. The bottom is the afore mentioned 22 Hornet also an American with it's trigger gaurd modified and one of the 5 round magazine altered to semi flush 3 rounds.

The CZ 527 "M1" model in 223 Remington came from the factory with a different style trigger gaurd and a 3 round magazine.

The "different" checkering on some 452/453/527 rifles you've note is often associated with "deluxe" stocks, whether this holds true all the time is up for debate. This is my CZ527 in .22 Hornet.

What I can remember, back in the mid to late 90's, CZ decided to ship just barreled actions to CZ-USA to save on shipping costs, and the nicer, more fancy stocks were made to specification under contract by some local stock makers in Missouri. There were lots of good wood and stock making companies back then, like Fajen, Bishop, Wieland and others.

Gerald D that's a very handsome Hornet. I wasn't aware of the deluxe stocks, mines straight grained walnut with not much figure to it. I've been accumulating CZ 527 since the late 1980's. I was aware that in the past CZ-USA offered to select higher graded wood stocks for a slight fee. It seems to have created more hassle than worth so they stopped. I think Midway bought Fajen and Bishops back in the mid 90's. I also just noticed that Gerald D's Hornet has the same Pachmayr recoil pad as mine.

Mine came from Ronan Sports and Western North of Missoula, now out of business. It's a standard 527 .22 Hornet except for the wood. It's now a K-Hornet by the way.
Other side. There's this picture above here in the thread about K'ing a standard Hornet. I like it a lot! As to the fancy wood ya use to find I talked to a CZ guy who told me they quit it. Seems it goes like this. Three Buddys order the same rifle, one get some real knock-out furniture, He's happy. Next buddy gets an ok piece of wood and he's not so tickled. 3rd Buddy get's a canoe paddle and he's P-OD! everyone want to send em back for a better stick and the Warranty dept. is P-OD too. CZ can't be trying to get wood that makes everybody giggle so they quit with fancy wood. He worked for em and it makes sense to me so once and a Great While no ya find a real good one but not like we use to, sad to say. Example being, I've liked mine a lot till I saw Gerald's, now I'm P-OD along with the rest of em!!! Just kidding Gerald, real nice looking rifle.
