Default 20 Practical_39gr SBK

Trying to find the most accurate load, currently using IMR8208 and curious to know how deep everyone is seating the 39SBK? My barrel has a long throat and bullet just sits inside the neck when touching the rifling. Looks like I can seat the bullet just enough to get at least a .040" jump.

Both the 40vmax and 39bk worked best for me around .010"-.020" off, but with a long throat you're just going to have to find the decent jump lengths. Don't be afraid to make it jump a bunch, if it works, who cares? Not the target.

Have you loaded it to magazine length and pulled the trigger yet? You might be surprised.

My 20p is an AR, so magazine length restrictions. Nosler 40@ 2.210 coal
Berger 35 @ 2.167 coal(these I have currently in ammo box for coyote)
My notes Sierra @ 2.150 was touching the lands but I don't have any loaded to check. Nosler I'm running, 0.025 off lands. So I would start 2.125 with the Sierra in my BHW barrel. I'm about 0.080 off with the Bergers.

No magazine in this build, single stack/blind mag.

I have another load worked up just seating the bullet enough to maximize case neck and still have a little room left in the shoulder, not much. Neck length is about 0.210" give or take.

I jump j.010 on the bolt gun, same as the AR version. My reamer has zero freebore. Who did the barrel job and why is there so much freebore?

Default Criterion Savage Pre fit

I decided not to go with that barrel for a 20 Vartag due to the excessive freebore. It had a great price during Black Friday sales and the response to my question RE: freebore was quick and informative.

I also have a 20P with zero freebore that resulted in the Sierra 39 gr bullet seated past the neck shoulder junction when seated 0.025" below jam.

Seems that knowing what forebore is best for a single shot bolt gun is critical before ordering a chambered barrel.

barrel was purchased at Northland Shooters Supply. I am going to ask them what the specs are on their barrels.
