I vote for a .20 practical. Cheap brass, good selection of bullets, easy to tune and shoots well with most every bullet.

I thought of that one also, but I have around 1000 cases of 204 brass.

What twist are you going with? I like the 1@10 twist.

After thinking about it I called Lilja back and changed it to a 11 twist. It will be a lightweight rifle shooting 32's to 39's with maybe an occasional 40gr. , I really don't need a 9T.
Would that fast of a twist in a 204 shooting 35's slow the velocity down much?

Don't believe the FPS would vary much, but I don't believe you would get the accuracy with 1/9 that you will with the 1/11.

I just read an article on the twist slowing velocity down. Not enough to argue over.
When my factory barrel quits, a new one will be ordered with a 1-9” twist. Yes Sierra 39’s show they will fly well in the 11’s, but I tend to find good deals on 40 grain v Max’s and Berger’s.

I saw on another forum that you hadn't found a donor. Did one come though for you?

A 1-11" twist barrel will serve you well. It will probably not be any more accurate than a 1-9" twist barrel would be with a good bullet, but the 11" twist will put a bit less stress on a 20 caliber bullet while in the barrel and hence it will probably provide a bit better barrel life.

I finally found one and hope to have it next week. I don't think I'm going to shoot it, that always seems to ruin donor rifles.
I jumped to soon and didn't do enough research on twist with the 204. You would think after all these years I would learn to be more patient, but........
Thankfully the members on this forum are a wealth of information, freat advice, and experience. I now see where a 9 twist while not necessary would have been just fine, but I'm glad I switched back to a 11 twist.
Reading posts on some other websites from BCB, Bill K, and others convinced me that what I really needed was the 11 twist.
Thanks fella's for the advice.

K22: One thing to take note of is with the 1/11 twist when you go into the 39 & 40 grain bullets. For whatever reason, most of us have found good accuracy and results will be with the 39 grain bullet.
Often the use of a 40 grain just does not work as well. They just don't seem to stabilize as well.
But any critter you are after can't tell a hill of beans with the one grain difference, with one grain less and the use of the 39 grainers. Bill K
