Norma 17 Remington brass
Picked up a nice CZ 527 varmint a month ago. Bought 100 pieces of Norma brass to load with. Does anyone know how much smaller the volume is on this brass vs Rem brass? Tried a couple of mid range loads and velocity was way high for the loads. 22 gr of Xbr 8208 was 4050, 23 of varget was 4100. These were with 25gr Hornady hp's seated .005" off the lands.
This is my first 17 so I'm not sure what to run in it. Should be a fun little shooter once I get it figured out Last edited by greasemonkey; 03-31-2019 at 10:52 PM. |

If I were you, I would follow the velocity max as a guide instead of the powder charge weight. Just my 2 cents.

This was my thoughts also. It takes pressure to make that much speed.

Probably should confirm the velocity, bullet drop at 300, or at least a second chronograph. Velocity is not a reliable predictor of pressure.

.17 Rem. load
I have had good luck with 25-26.5 of AA2700 with both 25gr V-Max & Bergers.Both will shoot 1/4" @ 100 yds. DRT on big N. Indiana groundhogs.

Never bad luck to have a 17 rem that runs fast. I would say the 8208 is unusual the varget seems ok. How is the accuracy, did you measure the web area before shooting any? I like fast 17's.

Haven't shot it much yet for groups. Mother nature hasn't been cooperating lately. Maybe today as it's fairly calm here.
The 8208 surprised me also. First load I tried was 23gr and my chrono read 4275. Thought it was a error so tried again and then kept backing the charge down. Figured the brass capacity was coming into play... Was going to try 414 as some on here like it. Most of the loads I've read won't fit in the case without running over the top. My tests showed that the Nosler brass powder volume capacity was about 2.8% less than factory Remington .17 Rem brass. Do your own testing though and be safe.
