Smile .17 Ackley hornet help

Last year I purchased a CZ 527 in 17 Ackley Hornet. The barrel twist is approx a 1 in 6 twist. Is this common to have this fast of a twist in this caliber.I have shot 20gr and 25gr bullets with fair success, but is this twist fast enough to stabilize the heaver bullets.

Default faster than I've heard of....

Usually the choice of twist for the 17s, at least the smaller case 17s is between 9" and 10" twist. My 9" twist stablized 30 grain bullets out of my 17Ah.
Are you sure it's a 6" twist???

I don't think I have even seen a 1/6 twist offered in a 17 cal barrel! Must be VERY Custom Order! I personally would love that twist rate...but I am of a few that feel that way...Some 17 cal bullets may not like that twist... Vmaxs should be fine, thou....would like to hear how different bullets do for you in that 6 twist!

Are you sure that is the twist, did you measure it (of could your rod slipped during measurment) seems as mentioned as custom twist or a rare breed. Bill K

If I recall right, a couple of years ago some guys were experimenting with 1:6 or 1:7 twists for 40-50gr bullets in 17 Remington.

I pushed a 17 cal jag through it with a patch on it until the rod made a full circle. Subtracted the difference from the total and came up with six the first time and six and a quarter the second time.

I would try the measurement again, but put a brush on at the end and pull it through to measure.

I can see 7 twist, maybe even 6.75, but not 6...that is enough twist for even the old 37 gr Bergers.
