Default 17Cal. 30grain BERGERS

I've got an opportunity to buy some BERGER 30 grain bullets.
Not sure of the quantity but I'd only consider if there was at least 400 bullets or more.

I'm stocked up with the discontinued BERGER 25gr. Target and own three factory 17Remington calibres which probably have the standard 1:10 twist

Would the BERGER 30gr. bullets potentially stablize in a 1:10 ??
Were these bullets produced as TARGET or VARMINT (large H.P.) types ??

I dont' shoot MOLY bullets and don't own any...would you...and is there any precautions to take before or after using them ?

Al,
I have not had success shooting 30 grain bullets in 10" twist barrels but some may... Nearly all of the moly coating can be removed by soaking and agitating the bullets in a solution of Dawn dishwashing soap.

Berger did make the 30 grain bullets in both "Match" style with the smaller hollow points and "Varmint" style with the larger hollow point. They also made them in flat base and boat tail bases.

For me, the boat tail bullets shoot VERY well.

YMMV

Don't let anyone tell you ,the Varmint "large HP"

Shoot the same as the small HP. Kenny

I doubt the 30s would stabilize in a 10 TW.

Some barrel makers are still recommending a 10 TW for 17s including

30gr bullets.

Head in the sand. Kenny

I'm currently shooting the discontinued target bullets in my 17/204 on coyotes and I have some of the varmint bullets loaded as well to shoot through my .17 Rem for prairie dog plinkin. The target bullets are flat base and the varmint variant has a boat tail.
The HP size difference between the two is vary evident also.

The 30s I have are target bullets. They shoot great out of my 17 FBs. Never tried them in the 17 HH. Only problem is I am pretty sure both of my 17 Fb are 1;9 Rem barrels, so can't say for sure if the 1:10 would stabilise them. Also notice the 17 Cal bullets don't show on the Berger twist calculator

If you end up buying them and they don't stabilise give me a call, I can use them in the FBs.
