Default CFE Black in 17VHA

I loaded a few test loads of CFE Black in the 17 VHA AR 15 . I was just testing for function and pressure. I loaded 11 grains CFE Black ,20 grain Nosler FB . No pressure signs in my gas gun . When the weather clears up here will have some more reports .

Default CFE BLK in 17 VHA

Will be watching for your findings and also doing some testing of it in my 17 VHA. Too compare with the fine loads I have with AA1680. Bill K

Why use this in a 17vha or 17 Hornet sized case? I don't see the advantages?

If it will get some more FPS and accuracy compared to AA1680 then why not? Also, like 1680 a lb of powder loads a good number of cases, when they are that small in capacity. Bill K

Default Fps not so much

Accuracy I understand, but 300MP definitely outperforms CFEBLK in velocity, and uses less powder to do it.

Have not tried that one, too compare. But do have CFE & 1680 in my area. Something to consider. Bill K

17x30 hits 3700 fps search for that under MarkD's profile,

Do NOT start anywhere near 10 gr of the 300MP. 10grs of 300MP in a standard 17VHA case gets more than a mere 3700 and is like messing with lightning or Sasquatch. At 9.68gr my primers were pretty flat with the 20GR XTP getting out to touch the lands. A load of 9.0gr of 300MP is plenty useful.

A guy here in this thread got these numbers :
9.0gr 300MP 20gr vmax 3574
9.2gr 300MP 20gr vmax 3645

Granted these are from a longish 24" barrel.

In my TC with an 18.75" barrel CCI400 and 9.04gr of 300MP I get 3254 fps using 17hmr 20gr XTP Gamepoint.

Ask Bowfisher about the accuracy, seems he was plenty happy.

I think the 300MP powder is the best powder for the 17vha in a bolt action or single shot rifle like contender . velocity and accuracy is great . I have had greact success with this powder . The AR 15 custom rifles that I build shoot well with it also , but they function better with slower burning powders like H4198 , 1680, VV120 . The CFE Black is perfect for AR15 17vha. I want to try it in bolt action also with 23 grain and 25 grain bullets . I hope that I can find some time and gine everyone some results. Thx! Mark

Default H 4198

H4198 is perfect for 25 and up for my TC barrel, no pressure issues even if compressed charges. I get 2910FPS with 30gr Kindler Gold BTHP using 9.7gr H4198 and a CCIBR4 or CCI400.

ok ! just checked velocity . 3389 fps with 20 grain Nosler HP FB bullets . I thumped two coyotes with this load last night and both were bang flop kills . will bump it up a little to see if I can get 3400 fps . I really like this powder in my little 17 VHA Ar 15 . If I could get 3400 with a 25 grain bullet that would be great. will try that and see what happens .
