More loads over the chrony a few weekends ago - I decided to chrony 10 shots each from the .22 and the .17hmr to provide some sort of reference:
Brno Mod 2: - Win555 ave 1290 fps - Fed bulk ave 1286 fps Ruger M77/17 CCI 17gn v-max: - ave 2646fps The averages below were then for five shots: Sako .20-222 32gn v-max: with BM1: - 23.2gn ave 3855fps - 24.4gn ave 4298fps - 24.7gn ave 4355fps I have decided on 24.1gn as my load based on these and previous results (both velocity and group sizes). Rem700 50gn v-max with BM2: - 35.5gn ave 3935fps - 36.0gn ave 3936fps No difference in velocity but the higher charge was more accurate at 200m - go figure. Marcus |

I picked up this blank (the marked price includes machining):
It was turned into an English classic varmint pattern: Since the photo above I have inletted for the barrelled action, reshape the forend, and sanded out the last of the router marks. Just need to widen the ejection pot a little, bed it then start applying an oil finish. Marcus |

nice
I'm a sucker for a nice piece of wood and that's going to be a very nice one. If my 20-222 Sako wasn't already in a decent factory stock I would be going down that route myself. That will be very nice once finished and looks like your keeping the traditional Sako varmint lines.

I am not trying to be a killjoy here, but Western load data shows loads for the .20 VArtarg and a 32 grain bullet and at 61kpsi with A2200 they are getting 3758 and with the Vartarg Turbo, which is .222 based, they are getting 3954 at 63kpsi with 2230 and a 32 grain bullet. These are both with 24" barrels. You are going WAAAAY over 63kpsi, with most all of those loads, even if your "not showing signs". I love the gun, " I have a "gunsmithed" L46 that begs to be something other than a .222. Be SAFE, and wear shooting glasses. |

Are A2200 or 2230 equivalent to ADI BM1 (also known as Benchmark 1 here in Aus)? Not to be confused with ADI BM2 (Benchmark 2) which I believe is marketed as Benchmark in the US. I'm also running a 26" barrel. Given the variables it would be great to run the loads through Quickload to get an estimate of pressure, but I don't think BM1 is listed in the powder library in the software. Marcus |

I understand they are not the equivalent , but your still not going to find a powder that produces that kind of velocity without going way over 63kpsi., especially on the 4200 fps loads. I was just giving examples of about the only real pressure tested data, not just a computer program, for your round. I understand many folks think that the data provided by bullet mfgrs. is bogus, but with a little inside info I can assure you it is not. Just be safe! We need some action photo's of the gun!
