Default 17 vmax vel

Guys,

It's been a while since I posted here, but your 17gr vmax HMR topic grabbed my interest.

I have loaded these in three .172" rifles and four different barrels.

They always put a grin on my face, MVEL from 1800 to as fast as I could push them, about 4600fps on a 1 in 9" tw. I picked up mine from the same source as many of you.

one thought, the box i have says "reject" not seconds. since they shoot so well i wonder if they were rejected because they weren't right for the 17 hmr or were they seconds?

Bob if your rejects are in a Hornady box there will be a number code for the type of reject. A call to Hornady should give you the reason they were rejected. I once had the list of codes they used but can't find it. I've shot many hundreds of boxes of rejects and never had a problem. Mine always shot right along side the regular production bullets out to 300 yds..

that's all good info and tracks with what i have seen. just thought they would be the perfect small game (fox and down) though i have a beautiful fox mount taken with a 17 hmr, dropped like a sack of potato's.

choosing the 17-vraptor aka 17x28, 17 vha was a great decision considering the price on a box of 17 hmr at the local gun shop. i still have 5000 mach 2 rounds for small game .

Some of the rejects just have a tip that is off in color or a blemish in the color of the jacket.

ray only been out once since moving back and it was a bust. i know some kind of plague killed almost all the jacks and we don't know if it got the fox as of yet.
if they show up they will die at the hands of the 17 v-raptor. most shots are 50 yards or less and the rifle shoots a .25 groups at that range. it will be eyeball hunting time.

not as young as i was back then which will be a limiting factor.
