Default Primer Pocket Depth

Good morning all,

17HH Fired factory loaded Win brass primer pockets aren't deep enough to flush fit BR 4's and Rem 71/2's are even worse.
My RCBS pocket reamer doesn't cut the pockets quite deep enough either so I've ordered an adjustable depth reamer.

SAAMI has no specs for web dimension around the flash hole raising the question of minimum tolerance's for correct function and wear...

I wouldn't be concerned about it in a larger case but there's not much in these little ones.

Welcome your input, regards,

Tony

I'd be more inclined to check other primer brands to see if the depth problem is alleviated before I started cutting brass from the web area and reducing the capacity of the brass to handle SAAMI pressures.

I thought I’d had with BR4’s but Tinmans link suggests 205m’s are lower in cup height by another .0015, I’ve just put my hands on a box.

I have a pair, one for SR and the other LR. They do a great job of cleaning primer pockets, so I use them after each firing.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one having issues with certain primer brass combos in the hornet cases. The Hornady cases just won't seem to take the primers flush without really pressing the primers in flat...gidd thing I load them with Fed 100M, which are the softest SPP out there, otherwise I'd never get them flush by hand! Remington cases work perfect, even with the hard CCI 500s.

That really perplexes me. Remington sorta fails at making a whole lotta stuff, but their hornet brass is some of the best I've bought or used. This particular lot, at least.

The one I ordered has a reversible cutter, SRP to LRP.
