I remember that scope model and think I had one... we know that about half of MSRP is what most scopes can be purchase for and I would suspect $250 - $300 would be a fair asking price if clean and no ring gouges.

Just saying....
If it seems to work fine, I'll probably do just that, Dave.

If it is a ~$300 item in today's world, it makes the price that I paid for the Sako extremely reasonable........

Thanks again for the information last night.

I got to a public range not too far from my home and shot the Sako L579 22-250/Redfield scope combination this afternoon. I shot 30 rounds of some Remington UMC stuff that I bought awhile back to shoot up for the brass to reload and use with heavier bullets in an 8" twist Tikka 22-250 that I picked up a few months ago.

Overall I'm very happy with the way that the combination shot. The first shot from the rifle showed the scope to be sighted about 2" high at 100 yards and probably 3-4" to the right for my eyes. I adjusted it accordingly and the clicks took just like I had hoped. I played with the scope knobs and the parallax adjustment with quite a few shots and no matter what I did the scope always returned to zero and the parallax appears to be spot on. Toward the end I got the scope finely zeroed for where I wanted impact at 100 yards to be, and I then shot this 5-shot group at 100 yards on 20X power with rounds 26-30. I drew a line across the bottom of the white bulls eye ring to show where I was holding the horizontal cross hair to shoot the final group.

Even thought both are old with varying ages, but in great condition, the rifle and the scope make a great combination together. I just wish that the scope wasn't so honkin' big. I'm going to think about it all for a few days before I take it off the rifle. Maybe the combination monkey/football "look" will grow on me since it all worked so well together.

One last comment: The Redfield scope is very clear and bright and it appears to be very repeatable in its adjustments. Well worth $300 if that's what its market value is. As I stated earlier today, it makes the cost for the rifle/scope combination together a great buy overall.

Default Price check Redfield 8xx32x49 Target Scope

Even thought it would be nice, if that scope dialed down to say 4x, 8x can work for closer shots at varmints. Believe I would just leave it as it, for now and enjoy shooting it on some critters, say a few coyotes. Bill K

After this afternoon, Bill, I'm starting to think like you are. I have no problems with a scope set on 8X for open country coyotes. My only issue is with the looks of the long gangley dang thing, with target turrets to boot, on a fairly small light weight rifle. If the scope was on a Rem 700 BDL Varmint Special in 22-250 or a similar cartridge, it would be an awesome combination for PD's.

Yesterday when I bought the rifle, I had no idea that the scope would be as good as this one appears to be. I was focused on the make, condition, and caliber of the rifle only, and the looks of the big scope on the Sako rifle was easily dismissed in my mind. Now.....If I do decide to take it off, it's definitely not going anywhere but on a HB varmint rifle of some sort...........

Is it okay to buy another rifle just because you have a scope to put on it? (Hint: I've done it before.........) Now I just need to find a good deal somewhere on a vintage Model 700 Varmint Special in 222 Rem or something very similar.............

Got a master catalog and some clearance flyers from Natchez today.
Some decent prices on things. Might be of interest to take a look there.
